| Photoselective Vaporization of the Prostate (PVP) using the Greenlight laser system represents a surgical alternative to the standard TURP (TransUrethral Resection of the Prostate) in treating men with troublesome waterworks symptoms that are likely to relate to the prostate gland. |

|
Rather than using electrical energy to remove chips of prostate tissue as in TURP, the high-powered Greenlight laser vaporizes tissue away creating a similar wide channel through the prostate gland.
Unlike TURP, the lack of bleeding caused by using the laser means that those patients undergoing PVP enjoy an early discharge from hospital and a rapid recovery back to normal activities. There also appears to be a lesserrisk of detrimental side-effects upon sexual function. |
