Coverage of the approval was in The Daily Mail too, having chosen to focus on men's health and all things prostate related during 2018.
As the options for treating BPH continue to widen for patients, we are delighted that our dedicated consultants are using their expertise to be at the forefront of these developments.
Neil Barber has been pioneering the way with Aquablation therapy and offering this therapy in NHS Trials at Frimley Park Hospital. The results are looking good as studies, presented to the leading Urological conferences, have shown. Neil is now recruiting patients for a 2nd trial at Frimley Park hospital to ensure this procedure proves its efficacy and enable this procedure to spread across the NHS.
Neil recently welcomed visiting Professor Mauro Dimitri from Rome, Italy to come and watch an Aquablation procedure in action. The patient had a prostate size of 110ml and went home the following day without a catheter
Following the announcement from NICE that prostate steam treatment, Rezum, has been approved for the NHS to offer patients as an option to treat Benign Prostate Enlargement, Professor Richard Hindley talks to Eammon Holmes on TalkRadio.
This recording also includes the experience of a patient recently having had Rezum treatment with Professor Hindley.
Media coverage of the prostate steam treatment, Rezum, pioneered by Professor Richard Hindley, has been followed up by confirmation from NICE that the minimally invasive treatment has been approved as a treatment option for the NHS.
Professor Hindley has been carrying out the procedure since March 2017 and over 100 cases have been performed. The procedure is widely used in the USA. Benefits of the procedure are attractive to both the NHS and patients due to the short procedure time and no need for overnight stay.

Great steps forward this week as the results of the PRECISION Study were published in the New England Journal of Medicine. The PRECISION Study has looked at mpMRI vs TRUS biopsy for prostate cancer diagnosis.
Urology Partners have been using mpMRI scanning as part of our prostate cancer diagnosis for five years and it was a privilege to work with colleagues on this study and get the results which will change the pathway for prostate cancer diagnosis.
Richard Hindley commented "I am so proud that Basingstoke has been able to contribute to such an International collaboration - the results published in the New England Journal of Medicine have confirmed that a targeted biopsy approach, using mpMRI scanning, in prostate cancer detection leads to better results."
"The ideal test for prostate cancer would be minimally invasive, have few side effects, identify a high proportion of men who would benefit from treatment and minimize the identification of men with clinically insignificant cancer in order to prevent overtreatment".
"PRECISION has demonstrated this and furthermore, nearly 1/3 of men will avoid unnecessary biopsy.”
