It is, however, in the area of cancer and particularly prostate cancer where there is greatest interest and controversy.
A long list of dietary factors have been linked to a decreased risk of developing prostate cancer, including powerful anti-oxidants such as selenium, vitamin E, lycopene (the chemical that makes tomatoes red) and pomegranate juice. Compounds in soy products as well as fish oils and green tea have also been linked.
At Urology Partners, we have particular interest in alternative approaches in this area and specifically in the dietary supplementation of anti-oxidants. Members of our team have pioneered clinical studies into the effects of dietary supplements in men with prostate cancer and continue research in this field, being recognised within the ‘neutraceutical’ industry as experts.
